Ch. One: Toxic
Kenji Atasuki was a handsome man. That was obvious even to the lively, bubbly redhead Dita but, now, with his breath against her neck and his lips brushing against her throbbing pulse, she really wished he wasnrsquo;t. It may have made things a bit easier for the overly-sensitive girl.
ldquo;hellip;Kenji-kunhellip;rdquo; She whimpered, her small hands fisting into his uniform. She let out a small gasp as his hand that wasnrsquo;t trapping her to the wall moved to press against her heated cheek. He stroked from her cheekbone to her chin making Dita hold back a sigh.
ldquo;Yoursquo;re very pretty Dita,rdquo; He murmured, his dark hazel eyes crinkling with a soft smile. The Vandread pilot couldnrsquo;t help but, grin back at the older teenager despite her current situation. Most people commented only on Ditarsquo;s childish personality, Kenji actually looked at Dita. He looked at Dita. Not Jura or Meia or Barnette. But Dita.
ldquo;Thank you, Mr. Kenji.rdquo;
He smiled softly at her again before his head lowered at an angle. Dita flinched as his heated breath blew across her face as he inched closer to her parted lips. ldquo;I wonrsquo;t hurt you Ditahellip;rdquo; Somehow, Dita knew he never would.
ldquo;Dita knows thathellip;rdquo; She whispered, her cerulean gaze trailing down his face before resting on his mouth, ldquo;But Dita canrsquo;t do thishellip;rdquo;
Kenji didnrsquo;t put up a fight. With a sigh he pushed away from the shorter girl. Running a hand through his shaggy blond hair, he smiled again. ldquo;Itrsquo;s because of Shorty, isnrsquo;t it?rdquo;
The fresh blush that flooded her cheeks answered his question for her, though he already, in a way, knew the answer. It didnrsquo;t take a brain surgeon to feel the attraction between the two. Even when he first met the two back on Talark, a short look into a glance shared between the pair had revealed much. If the meaningful looks werenrsquo;t enough, the crackle of jealousy that flooded the air upon Dita tackling him in a hug after his acceptance of the program sure gave away the Shortyrsquo;s feelings for the redhead.
Kenji almost laughed.
Allowing his mind to flicker back to the innocent girl at his side, he turned to her. ldquo;Crsquo;mon, Irsquo;m pretty sure yoursquo;re leader mentioned something about a meeting.rdquo;
Dita smiled.
ldquo;Hairdquo;
ldquo;Dita, Hibiki and Atasuki are missing,rdquo; Meia stated as she took a roll call of the room pilots before her. The red-head and blond disappeared together quite frequently actually, ldquo;Does anybody know of their whereabouts?rdquo;
The group shrugged while Meia sighed.
ldquo;Ask him, Meia,rdquo; The buxom blond, Jura, suggested as Hibiki stepped through the sliding doors and into the meeting room. ldquo;Ask me, what?rdquo; He asked with a narrowed gaze.
ldquo;Where is Dita? And Atasuki?rdquo;
The vanguard pilot made a point of not answering the question as he took a seat in the furthest corner of the room. It wasnrsquo;t very hard to see that the boy was obviously annoyed with the situation. He crossed his arms for his chest, glaring angrily to the front of the room, ignoring the curious stares from the women and men around him.
A moment of awkward silence passed over the room before another boy, of about sixteen, raised a hand into the air. Meia nodded to him, ldquo;Why is Hibiki-San jealous of Atasuki-San?rdquo;
Laughter broke out as the pilot in question jumped to his feet threatening to strangle the quieter boy. The audiencersquo;s uproar seemed to end as the entrance doors opened once more as Kenji strode in with a red-faced Dita clutching to his arm for dear life.
ldquo;What in the world happened to her?rdquo; Jura questioned, looking at the woozy expression on the bright-hearted girlrsquo;s face. She looked like she had suffered another one of her emotional overloads.
Kenji shrugged, perplexed, ldquo;She just collapsed in the hall. I offered to bring her to the infirmary but, she insisted to come with mehellip;rdquo;
Dita seemed to find with amusing as she giggled, burying her face against the manrsquo;s shoulders. Jura raised a slim eyebrow but, waved away the oddness of it. ldquo;Shersquo;ll be finehellip;rdquo;
ldquo;She looks drunk,rdquo; Barnette remarked from her unusually silent seat next her best friend, the blond Vandread pilot, Jura.
Meia once again sighed, rubbing the bridge of her nose between her forefingers, ldquo;Itrsquo;s most likely a fever,rdquo; she offered to the discussion of Ditarsquo;s odd behavior. Her gaze rose to stare directly at the blond man and red-headed girl, ldquo;Take her to the infirmary and see if you canrsquo;t get her to sleep,rdquo; She ordered. Kenji nodded as he bent to sweep his arm under the girlrsquo;s legs. In a single, swift motion, she was clutched to his broad chest. Her head rested on one forearm, the crook of her knees on another.
A few men in the watching group gave a little gasp while Hibiki swore he was going to blow a bleed vessel. He wondered briefly if it was natural for his right eyebrow to twitch like that. Meiaapos;s voice brought him from his thoughts.
ldquo;And when she wakes, tell her I ordered you to take her for medical care,rdquo; She murmured to the retreating blond and his cargo. She waved them off as he nodded to her for signal that he understood.
Hibiki watched the door close on the two. His stomach seemed to clench and tighten at the thought of Dita and thathellip;bastard alone together. He shook his head. The thoughts floating around his mind werenrsquo;t ones that were going to help with situation. On top of that, the idea that he felt like tearing off the bastardrsquo;s head for merely touching the UFO girl was unfathomable. He should be thanking him for getting the suffocating girl to give him some peace.
He sighed as his inner-conscious flickered back to Dita and the bastard alone. Together. He shuddered inwardly as he groaned, slapping a hand to his forehead in frustration.
The Vanguard pilot, being engrossed in his thoughts, never seemed to notice when a navy haired girl slid next to him on the bench. Her red eyes glittered with humor as she pressed her lips to his ear, ldquo;If yoursquo;re trying to act like you donrsquo;t care that another guy is flirting with Dita-Chan, you are failing patheticallyhellip;rdquo;

I love you so,
Much more when youapos;re not here.
A/N: God, I love Vandread and Hibiki/Dita. I found it a bit unfair that Dita had to have a rival for Hibikiapos;s affections. I mean, I think it probably would have been a bit more interesting if Hibiki, while being in denial the whole time, had to fight to keep Ditaapos;s affection. I always seem to have a thing for jealousy... Yeah, and Iapos;m sorry for any OOC-ness.
